No transactions were extracted from my bank statements

If no data was extracted from your bank statements then it is likely that the template selected within StatementReader did not match the scanned statements that you have to process. Please double check that the column headers on the thumbnail image for the template on the StatementReader interface match those on your scanned pages. Some transactions are missing

Column headings are used by StatementReader to identify where the transactions begin on each page. If some pages of the bank statements that you would like to process do not have column headings, rerun the job selecting the checkbox above the 'Go' button called 'Extract all lines'. Also, if you are using a template you have created yourself you should find the template under 'My banks', right-click and edit the template, then within the template creation wizard at step two,

The summary sheet in Excel isn't using the correct column for transaction narrative

UPDATE: An option has now been introduced for the user to decide before processing a multi-narrative statement format which column should be used for the analysis. This will be shown to the user automatically in these situations. Descriptions and numbers are misread

StatementReader uses a process called OCR to read and interpret images that contain text. In order for StatementReader to perform this task and provide the best quality output, the scanned documents should be original bank statements scanned to TIF, black & white format at 300 DPI. Some pages and transactions are missing

StatementReader uses templates to ensure that the scanned documents are interpreted correctly. These contain information such as, where the columns are located and the date format. The most popular bank layouts are available once you install StatementReader. If you have statements from a bank that is not already listed, or the indentation of your statements is significantly different to the image shown in StatementReader, you will get better results if you use the File -> N

Is StatementReader installed correctly?

To check whether StatementReader is installed correctly, go to 'Help' from the menu of StatementReader and select an example job. You should see an image open showing a bank statement, followed by Excel which will display the bank transactions from this image. The data is not being extracted

The 'extract all lines' option is useful when the column headers (date, description etc.) are obscured by a background so this text is not embedded within the searchable PDF document. Also, you may edit a template that you created yourself and de-select the checkbox provided at step two of the template creation wizard. Freezing when connecting to our server

This could be because the connection is timing out (because you have a slow internet connection), or there is anti-virus software or firewall blocking the outward connection. StatementReader requires an internet connection to check for updates and validate licensing; data processed from bank statements will not leave your machine without warning you first. #Troubleshooting #All

Anti-virus warning

Our application has been checked for viruses and is provided with a digital signature that most anti-virus applications use to successfully validate the publisher of StatementReader. #Troubleshooting #All

Crashes after page one

It seems that the application crashes when it tries to open the Excel workbook to display the results of the first page. First, please check that you have Excel installed. Missing validation code

It should usually take less than a minute for a validation code to be generated and sent to you. Check to see if there is an anti-virus application or firewall blocking the connection to our server. Also, you should check your junk folder incase the validation code was caught by your spam filter. If you cannot find the automated email, please contact the StatementReader team for support. An error message says that I need Ghostscript

A free-to-use, third-party application called Ghostscript is required to use StatementReader with PDF documents - an automatic check is carried out once the application is opened, as Ghostscript is often installed as standard with Windows. Some of the debit or credit amounts are missing in the extracted data

If you are running the job with ‘searchable PDF’ selected, first check whether the PDF document contains the numbers that you are missing as searchable text. To test this, open the PDF document and click to select the text (or press CTRL+A to select all text). If the text you are missing is not selectable, then you may either use a tool that creates a searchable PDF to ensure that all areas of text are included.
